Shifting textures of sand and silt on the beach are created with Night clay impressed into porcelain.  The glaze renders the clay more brilliantly like the water's edge.

Something will find its home in this sweet little vessel.  If you are keeping it in the cupboard, it will come in handy when you have a little wasabi or condiment side to dish up, or just for your morning vitamins.

Dimensions are approximately 3" wide by 1" deep

Rhonda Purcell My love of the geology, waters, skies and flora of California grew out of a fairly charmed childhood with two adventurous, fun-loving parents.  Almost every weekend, my brother and I found ourselves hiking the hillsides, biking the backroads, or boating the waters.  Our family went camping and swam in the ocean or a river every summer.  Of all these experiences, being in the water was the most sublime.  The contrast of transmutable tints of water and the solid stillness of stone below continues to fill my heart with wonder and happiness.  Exploring and capturing the experience of being immersed in the California landscape will keep me busy for the rest of my life.

Cecilia Combs, known by many of you as Butchie from her childhood nickname, makes treasured renditions of leaves by pressing them into clay.  She explores each variety of leaf as if a new found friend, and experiments with compositions and how that leaf is rendered until the beauty of the piece matches its inspiration.

Jeff Kubis is a designer and artist originally from the midwest who has made San Francisco his home for several decades.  Jeff and Rhonda collaborated to combine elements of their previous work into the Terrain collection, which is a synthesis that includes Jeff’s deep plate form and upside down firing technique and my functional, rock-textured forms.

Bill Purcell is a photographer and educator who studied with Joel Sternfeld at Stockton University, and who is passing on the traditions instilled by that experience to his students at the Academy of Art University. His photographs feature intimate landscapes that are given an additional touch of magic with his nuanced post-production rendering. In addition to his art degree, Bill also holds a degree in economics with an emphasis in small business from Rutgers University, which comes in very handy when you are trying to run a pottery business!

MADE TO ORDER items take some time to form, fire, glaze and refire. If you know what you want and you’re not in a hurry, go ahead and order your items now! If you would like to get samples or you have questions about pricing and ordering, please contact us. Either way, we will check in and keep you informed about the time to ship.

Please note that the pictures on MADE TO ORDER items are offered as representative examples, and do not depict the exact items that are ultimately created and shipped. We strongly recommend you purchase sample tiles to get a sense of the variations involved with handmade ceramics.

The minimum timeline for MADE TO ORDER is one month, and can be longer depending on the firing schedule for the type of clay involved. We will discuss a likely timeline for the project when you request an estimate. Once you receive, review and approve an estimate, you will be asked to deposit half the amount of the order before work on the project will begin.
